14th ANNUAL SPRING CHARTER BROKER'S SHOW
by Heather
June 2005

The St. Thomas Spring Charter Show was a great sucess despite the overcast weather. Over 30 yachts were viewed by brokers from near and far. This was the first year the show was fully hosted in Red Hook, American Yacht Harbor. Crown Bay Marina, the former host of the show, while convenient to the airport, was quite noisy and directly next to the container ship's loading dock. American Yacht Harbor was a welcoming marina with easy access to the yachts and plently of shops and restaurants for lunch. Since the majority of St. Thomas pick-ups occur in Red Hook it gave brokers a better feel of the facility. You really can't miss the large American flag where many crews meet guests as well as the open restaurant/bar, Molly Malone's, directly next to the dock.

I had the pleasure of staying at the Captain's Quarters run by Mike and Sandy Lampe who previously ran a very sucessful charter yacht. They offer rooms with private baths at $125 and rooms with shared baths for $100 (plus 18% tax and service). It is a lovely house with a large, open shared living room and huge patio overlooking Red Hook Harbor. Sandy prepares coffee and a continental breakfast for guests. The rooms are all recently renovated with new furniture and bathroom fixtures, cable TV and a small refrigerator. Mike and Sandy will deliver guests directly to their awaiting yachts in Amercian Yacht Harbor. With their charter experience and the comfortable accommodations they have created, this is the perfect place to spend the night prior to starting your charter vacation in Red Hook.
