SAD NEWS FOR 'WILLY T' ENTHUSIASTS by Ed August 2006 Serious party-goers head for the 'Willy T' floating bar and restaurant like a magnet. Anchored at Norman Island, in the BVI, it's the kind of place people either anchor as far away from as they can, or they're jumping into their dinghies before the anchor is set! When the original 'Willy T.' sank, it was replaced ten years ago by the present 98' steel schooner, which  could accommodate far more dinner and bar guests. It also has a large raised bridge deck aft, where most of the partying goes on. Those that jump from the stern sans clothes get a free T-shirt saying 'I came, I saw, I jumped'. The boat does a great trade in T-shirts.If those same partiers need to sober up fast the next morning, they could take a snorkel around 'The T'. There are some extremely large fish that live under there! The 'Willy T' can be the highlight of many people's vacation, but be warned, this is serious, crazy partying, where, on busy nights, incredible amounts of alcohol are consumed. Belly shots, Shotski (a waterski with 4 shot glasses) . . . . you get the idea! The sad news: Jumping from the 'Willy T' has been stopped by the Marine Services Department after a tourist came close to drowning last month. He spent two days in the hospital but was then released and returned home. Rest assured they will find a way to get around this temporary setback or dream up something else. We don't expect much to change! The 'Willy T' will be closed for maintenance in September. Return to the Charter Connection home page |
