THE GOLDEN ROCK REGATTA commemorates the 'first salute', which made Holland the first foreign power to acknowledge the independence of the newly founded U.S.A. They badly need an American entry to fly the old Continental Colors.

October 2006

The second Golden Rock Regatta departs St. Martin on November 13th 2006. The course runs to St. Kitts and then St. Barts, finishing in St. Eustatius (Statia) - a comfortable 40 miles per day. The prize-giving party at Fort Orange, St. Eustatius will include HM Queen Beatrix as the guest of honor.

The Regatta commemorates the “First Salute”, given to the brig Andrew Doria on the 16th November 1776, making Holland the first foreign power to acknowledge the independence of the newly formed United States.

This unique regatta takes participants on a cultural tour of the region where each day they can sample a different cuisine, thus adding some spice to cruising in The Caribbean! The majority of the fleet will consist of chartered boats, some crewed by fanatical racers and some intent merely on enjoying themselves!

The crews so far are primarily Dutch, so the organizers badly need an American entry to fly the old Continental Colours and hopefully, once again, take the First Salute from Fort Orange! They would also welcome entries from other nations who would do their best to prevent The US from doing so!
