BE PART OF A TALL SHIPS PARADE THIS SUMMER
Don't just watch these majestic vessels from the shore

Have you ever stood in the crowds and watched a procession of magnificent tall ships sailing by? From Norfolk, Virginia to Newport, RI and New York to Maine, these 'windjammer weekends' can be popular events.
But instead of watching from the shore, why not be a participant? Several windjammers offer space aboard and some smaller yachts (like the schooner 'Bonnie Lynn shown above) can be chartered for your whole party.
There are Tall Ships events in Charlestown, SC (May 17 - 20), Norfolk (June 7 - 12), Newport, RI (June 27 - July 1) and Halifax, NS (July 13 - 16).
Maine's popular events include Boothbay Windjammer Days (week of June 25th), The Great Schooner Race (week of July 2nd), Rockland's Windjammer Parade (July 13), Eggemoggin Reach Regatta (August 4th), Camden Windjammer Weekend (week of August 27th) and The Shipyard Cup, Boothbay (September 7 - 9)
The maxis pictured in this article are from The Shipyard Cup. I will never forget watching 'Endeavour' crossing tacks with 'Sumurun' and 'Victoria of Strathern' right off our bow. The skipper was sailing this 130' J, with its 165' mast and acres of sail, just like an overgrown dinghy! The boom is so massive. the crew walk along it when furling the main!
Chartering a yacht like 'Endeavour' would be the thrill of a lifetime, but at over $70,000 per week, she is not for everyone. Fortunately there are boats for all budgets. Let's hear from you!
