NEW YEAR CRAZINESS - the rush to get the right crewed yacht for New Year 2008
by Ed
February 2007
Now that the holidays are over, guests who particularly enjoyed their New Year crewed yacht charter are trying to secure the same boat for 2008 and those that left it too late are making sure they get the boat they want next time. We always experience this initial rush, followed by a lull in Christmas bookings, which increase again in the summer. In the Fall, it seems like 20% of our total crewed yacht enquiries are for the New Year week and it is so frustrating not be able to find the best match for a client from the small number of boats available.
The truth is there are only so many of the popular high-end private crewed catamarans that can accommodate an extended family. Currently (as of February 1st), most of the larger 8 and 10 passenger options such as Zingara, True North, Lone Star, Cynful, Fantasy Island, Wanderlust, Sabore and Angel Glow, are already tentatively booked or confirmed for New Year - that's almost a year ahead!
Needless to say, if you are considering a large gathering for New Years or if you just want to choose from the largest selection, to get the boat and crew that really fits, don't leave it to the summer. Most people already know their dates. Christmas and New Year's Day both fall on a Tuesday, so the popular weeks will be December 22 - 29, December 28 - January 4 and December 29 - January 5.
Remember that, unless you take at least a 9 or 10 day charter, most boats do not allow you to include both Christmas and New Year. These two holidays are almost guaranteed to get booked and boats naturally want to maximize the number of days the holiday charters cover. Owners will also be reluctant to start a charter on December 26th or even the 27th, as this can lose them a Christmas charter. It takes at least 24 hours to turn a boat around between charters.
If you know you want to do this, it's worth making that little extra effort to get something held now! You only have to put down a 25% deposit and you might beat a rate increase! You will also get the best boat possible!
