FEATURED TORTOLA RESORT - The Tamarind Club Hotel
Lynne - February 2009
In addition to helping you find the perfect yacht, Ed Hamilton & Co. can assist you with every aspect of your vacation, including hotel reservations.
The Tamarind Club Hotel is located on the northeast side of Tortola, just 10 minutes from the Beef Island Airport and 15 minutes from Road Town. It is therefore a good choice for a one night stay before or after your charter. Though a bit funky and "off the beaten path" (you may encounter a goat or two on your way), guests at Tamarind enjoy deliciously prepared meals at their gourmet restaurant, which offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, nightly entertainment and a freshwater pool with a swim-up bar.
On arrival, you'll be given a welcome rum punch - very potent! There's complimentary continental breakfast each morning, consisting of coffee, English muffins and bread that is set out at 6 a.m. for those having to leave early. The regular breakfast menu starts at 7:30 a.m.
The hotel is not located on a beach, but it's just a short walk (about 8/10 of a mile) to beautiful Josiah's Bay. Perfect for a picnic, you'll also find a couple of beach bars serving burgers, fries, chicken, sandwiches, mixed drinks and beer.
The accommodations range from first-floor garden rooms with one queen size bed (perfect for one couple), to second-floor verandah rooms with 2 queen size beds and suites with 2 rooms (great for 2 couples sharing or for families). The rooms are simply furnished, each brightly decorated, and no two are the same. Don't expect luxury accommodations or quiet seclusion. On nights when a local band plays, you'll hear (and feel) music until 10 p.m. The attraction at Tamarind is the laid-back atmosphere and the great food. Nightly rates are $105-$199 based on double occupancy (plus tax & service).
Stay on your arrival night and enjoy one of their specialty drinks while dining with friends as you plan your charter ahead. Or, stay the last night of your vacation to get your land-legs back and reflect on the past week's adventures.
