A NEW FIND AT THE TORTOLA CREWED BOAT SHOW - 'SECRET OASIS' WINS OVERAL BOAT OF THE SHOW.
'Secret Oasis' is a Mayotte 58 catamaran. She is one of the nicer versions of this popular design, but what makes this boat outstanding is her crew.
Richard Smit and Adele Schabort (25/24) are from South Africa. They are relatively new to chartering but certainly not to sailing. They recently delivered a yacht from South Africa to the famous Pendennis shipyard in Falmouth, England. The yard was probably expecting the owner and the British reception was politely formal, but this young couple soon put everyone at ease! While in England, they took the time to sail up to Scotland and loved the ruggedness of this glorious coast. With its whirlpools and unpredictable weather, this is one of the most challenging areas anywhere, but like Richard and Adele, anyone who has sailed there will tell you it is worth it.
Richard enjoys any type of water sport, including diving. He also helps with the cooking. They both love kids and enjoy getting them involved in all the water toys they have onboard. They have a keen interest in the environment and have taken part in various clean up programs.
Adele has taken cooking courses but has always had a passion for entertaining and preparing great meals. She is a dive master, so certified divers can dive off the boat ($30 per person, per dive). She loves wake boarding and anything to do with the water. She is also a talented artist with a particular interest in charcoal drawing. She originally trained as a kindergarten teacher and is very comfortable with children.
What particularly impressed us was that not only was this young crew fun and interesting to talk to, but they also managed to balance this with a true understanding of service and professionalism.
Built in 2007, 'Secret Oasis' had a major refit in 2009. She can accommodate up to 10 guests in 5 cabins, with en suite heads. All are essentially queen berths, although in one of the forward cabins the bed is slightly larger. The crew takes the midships port cabin below the galley.
She has a 16' inflatable with a 90hp outboard and an impressive array of watersport toys, including underwater scooters, child and adult waterskis, dive gear for 10 guests, windsurfer, etc.
Her price includes all meals and reasonable bar, and varies between $3,500 per person for 6 and $2,350 per person for 10 guests, for a 7 night charter. She is offering various specials in December and January, but is booked for Christmas and New Year. Call us at 800 621 7855, or email us for more information. If you are planning a charter, tell us your plans and we suggest some yachts that fit all your expectations.
