Ian Hughes has successfully chartered ‘Gannet’ for 10 years in the Caribbean. We had 59 happy charters on her, so we know the boat and crew well.

After all those years of hard work, Ian is realizing his own dreams and taking ‘Gannet’ around the world, but he needs someone to go with him. The original concept was to have shipmates join him to help make passages, at a passage making price of $60 per day. Once at a location, he was planning to have charter guests aboard on an informal basis.

This has now changed, as Ian has found that trying to pick up suitable crew leg by leg takes a lot of time to arrange and can be complicated. He is now looking for a more permanent sailing companion for significant portions of the trip.

We feel this is a great opportunity for a sailor with offshore skills who can spare the time. This is not a charter and anyone doing this would be sharing passage expenses as the trip proceeds. If itineraries get interrupted due to weather or mechanical problems, this is part of the experience. Monies committed aren’t refunded and because we are simply making this situation known and not booking the trip, Ed Hamilton & Co. is in no way liable.

We would suggest that anyone interested should contact Ian and arrange to get together before making any decisions, to see if this is a mutually compatible situation. A boat can get awfully small when the chemistry is not right.

There aren’t many opportunities to sail a modern Alden on a cruise like this, particularly with a sailor of Ian’s caliber.

Good Luck.

Naturally, if you cannot take a few months off, yet would like to sail among some of the beautiful islands in The Pacific, we would be happy to arrange a bareboat or crewed charter for you. Just give us your requirements and we will make some suggestions.
