See how Tortola has changed in the 30+ years we have been in the charter industry!
This picture was taken in 1973 and shows the old West Indies Yachts dock in Maya Cove, with their fleet of Coronados and Ohlsons. This marina was built for a company chartering houseboats and later became the Tropic Island Charter base. It is now part of Sunsail. CSY's operation can be seen to the left of the picture, before they built their new facility in Baughers Bay, Road Town. Maya Cove was a popular place for visiting and live aboard yachts.
The picture below was taken from the same spot today. The area is now a service dock for Sunsail. There is a building where the grass area was and the marina docks spread most of the way across the cove.
The picture below was taken in 1970 and shows CSY on the far side of the Cove and BVI Houseboats at the old WIY dock shown in the above photographs. The color picture below it shows the present day Sunsail base which fills the cove. The buildings and parking lot were built on reclaimed land - note the position of the road in the forground.
