Caribbean Sailing Vacations by Ed Hamilton
Road Town past and present
The modern road through the center of town is built almost entirely on reclaimed land (see terracotta roofed farm building in the foreground as reference).

The old one lane road ran close to the hillside. It is now one way but in the old days as traffic increased it could take a a long time to drive through town - you often had to wait for the direction of traffic to reverse before you could get through!

It's hard to believe now, but the backs of these stores were on the water (when next in town check out the 'Little Denmark' building). The storm drain roughly follows the old shore.
